Game 4 tips tonight at MSG — Knicks hold a 2-1 series lead and a chance to put the Spurs on the brink, while San Antonio looks to level things up after a stunning road win Monday. Here's everything you need to know heading into Wednesday night's pivotal matchup.

Through three games, no home team has won a single contest — the road team has taken all three, a feat last achieved in the 1993 Bulls-Suns Finals. 1

Game 4 preview: what to watch

De'Aaron Fox fires a clutch pull-up jumper over OG Anunoby late in Game 3, giving the Spurs the lead in their 115-111 road win at MSG. — Fox's go-ahead pull-up with 48 seconds left proved to be the decisive moment in Game 3. 1

Can Karl-Anthony Towns rediscover his rhythm? KAT has been one of the best players in these playoffs — a +15.3 net rating per 100 possessions, positive plus-minus in every one of his 17 playoff appearances — but he has yet to score a single point in the fourth quarter of this series. 3 In Game 3 he took just 10 shots and had one assist; in Games 1 and 2 he averaged 13.5 field-goal attempts and 4 assists. Coach Mike Brown acknowledged the gap plainly: "It's extremely important that he's getting touches, that he's involved, not just in the fourth quarter but obviously throughout the ballgame."

Wembanyama's paint presence shifts everything. In Games 1 and 2 Wemby settled for mid-range and perimeter shots late. In Game 3 he made 9 of his shots around the rim, a deliberate adjustment by San Antonio's coaches. At 22, he became the youngest player in Finals history to score 30+ points — joining Magic, Kobe, and now Wemby. The Spurs win when he dominates at the rim. 4

De'Aaron Fox as the steadying variable. Fox is shooting below 40% from the field and under 20% from three in this series, but he leads San Antonio in assists and touches, and his pull-up jumper over OG Anunoby in Game 3's final minute delivered the go-ahead bucket. Stephon Castle said after the game: "Having the ball in his hands late is like a comfort thing for us. I feel like whether he's shooting the ball well or not, he generates a good shot for us pretty much every time." 3

Brunson's foul trouble and load management. Brunson scored 32 points in Game 3 but finished at -9 and picked up five personal fouls. His plus-minus has been negative in two consecutive games. If the Knicks reduce his Q1 workload — less isolation, more movement — they may avoid the stagnant offense that plagued the first and third quarters of Monday's loss.

The controversy that won't go away: the Wemby shove

In the opening quarter of Game 3, Wembanyama shoved Brunson with both hands off a screen attempt. No foul was called. No review took place. Brunson staggered, braced himself on the floor, then jumped up and got into Wembanyama's face before the possession continued. 2

Two days later, the league's head of officiating, Monty McCutchen, confirmed on ESPN that the foul was missed. Spurs coach Mike Brown had already pointed to a 24-to-8 second-half free throw disparity as evidence of a separate problem. The incident sat on top of years of MSG home-crowd tension, and by the time the Spurs took the lead in the fourth quarter, the arena — and the city — boiled over.

After the game, Spurs fans were attacked in the streets around MSG. Videos of jerseys torn, people followed through the neighborhood, and fights outside the arena went viral. At Bryant Park, where thousands had gathered for the official watch party, 21 people were arrested as fights broke out and police were hit with beer bottles. Eight people faced charges including assaulting an officer and criminal possession of a weapon; 13 others received summonses for disorderly conduct.

Wembanyama, when told about the attacks at Tuesday's media availability, said he hadn't seen the footage. After a reporter confirmed what happened, he paused: "My thoughts, of course, is that we can't forget it's a game. We're just playing a game out there. And I am all for passion, but, to the respect of each other, it's unacceptable." 2

The Knicks confirmed there will be no outdoor watch party for Game 4.

The Trump factor — then and now

Game 3 drew 23.8 million viewers, the largest NBA Finals Game 3 audience since the 1998 Bulls-Jazz series, according to ESPN PR. The number may have been partly inflated by President Trump's attendance — Trump became the first sitting U.S. president ever to attend an NBA Finals game, and was loudly booed throughout the night at MSG. 2

For Game 4, Trump is not expected to attend, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The stated reason was "scheduling conflicts and obligations." The five-block security perimeter, bag ban, and canceled watch party that came with his Game 3 presence drew more complaints than praise from local fans. Taylor Swift, however, was reported by Page Six as potentially attending — the kind of celebrity-row addition that keeps MSG's social media feeds cycling.

Terry Rozier faces new charges. Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier pleaded not guilty Wednesday to updated charges of sports bribery and honest services wire fraud conspiracy, stemming from an alleged scheme to defraud sports betting platforms using inside information. A February trial date was set. 5

Giannis trade buzz resurfaces. Bleacher Report cited sources indicating that a Bobby Portis inclusion is increasingly expected in any Milwaukee Bucks package centered on Giannis Antetokounmpo. Discussions are described as exploratory, with Miami among the teams monitoring the situation. 6

Mitchell Robinson free-agent market heats up. Robinson — available on a free-agent contract after the Finals — is drawing major interest from multiple teams.
