Musk vs ZDF: The 'migrant hunt' line that blew up X

Musk vs ZDF: The "migrant hunt" line that blew up X
A 28-second TV intro became a platform-wide fight over wording, responsibility, and power: did ZDF summarize a messy riot story too aggressively, or did Musk turn a correction into a free-speech showdown?
What happened
- On June 9, Elon Musk shared a protest call about Belfast and wrote: "Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!" 1
- On June 12, ZDFheute Live introduced a Belfast segment by saying a "racist mob" was hunting migrants and that the call came from Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk; BBC later reported that ZDF removed the wording after Musk's legal move. 2
- On June 15, Musk replied that "Legal action is being taken against ZDF for their outrageous lies." 3
- BBC and DW both reported that ZDF described the original phrasing as "misleading" or "imprecise" and removed or amended the passage. 2 4
Why X split
Supporters of Musk argue that ZDF crossed a line by turning a protest post into a claim about "hunting" migrants, then backed down once challenged. Musk's lawyer Joachim Steinhöfel called the result a successful cease-and-desist undertaking. 5
Critics argue the legal threat sits uneasily with Musk's free-speech branding and that his amplification of a protest call during violent unrest is still part of the story. 6
