Barcelona settled La Liga in the most dramatic setting possible, Arsenal booked a historic Champions League final date, and the Premier League title race tightened to two points with the clock running out. Here is everything that happened between May 10 and 17, 2026.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain meet at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on Saturday May 30 (18:00 CET / 5pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK) in a final that carries genuine history at stake for both clubs.1

For Arsenal, it is only their second ever European Cup final — the first since they lost 2-1 to Barcelona in Paris in 2006.2 Mikel Arteta's side went through the entire competition without losing: eight wins from eight in the league phase (23 goals scored, 4 conceded), then past Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting CP, and Atletico Madrid in the knockout rounds — 14 matches, 11 wins, 3 draws.2 Arsenal conceded just 2 goals across all six knockout games and kept nine clean sheets in the competition overall, posting an xGA (expected goals against) per game of 0.84 — comfortably among the best defensive records in this season's tournament.3

PSG are the defending champions, having beaten Inter Milan 5-0 in last season's final in Munich. The week's standout Premier League result came on Friday night. Aston Villa dismantled Liverpool 4-2 at Villa Park to clinch their Champions League place for 2026-27, with Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa forward) scoring twice and John McGinn (Aston Villa midfielder) curling a superb fourth from the edge of the area.12 Unai Emery (Aston Villa manager) put the win in context: "Fantastic… four years here and four years in Europe. Two managerial storylines are reshaping the summer. Xabi Alonso — who led Bayer Leverkusen to the 2023-24 Bundesliga title — was confirmed as Chelsea's new manager on May 17, one day after the FA Cup final defeat.27 On the same day, multiple reports citing sources inside Manchester City's training ground indicated that Pep Guardiola has decided to leave the club this summer, with an official announcement expected within days.28 Guardiola leaves as the most decorated manager in English football history. His exit has already triggered transfer movement: Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City defender) has been offered to Real Madrid, and José Mourinho is reportedly pushing the club to sign Rodri (Manchester City midfielder) as a priority signing.28

Finally, a World Cup shadow over La Liga's final weeks.
