England finally got their World Cup started, and they did it in the most England way possible: Harry Kane scored twice, Jude Bellingham hit a beauty straight after half-time, Marcus Rashford finished it off, and Thomas Tuchel still has a defensive review session waiting after a four two win over Croatia. Elsewhere, Portugal stumbled into a one all draw with DR Congo, Ghana nicked a stoppage-time winner against Panama, Colombia beat Uzbekistan three one, and the transfer desk keeps bubbling with Arsenal looking at Bradley Barcola, City dreaming very big in midfield, and United still trying to get Ederson over the line.

Wednesday June seventeenth. Tuesday June sixteenth. World Cup Matchday Five did something gloriously odd: four games, four draws, and the biggest headline was Cabo Verde holding Spain nil-nil on their World Cup debut. Belgium and Egypt traded goals in Seattle, Saudi Arabia nearly repeated an old trick against Uruguay, and New Zealand gave Iran a proper scare in Los Angeles. Tunisia have already changed manager after that five-one defeat to Sweden, with Herve Renard coming in. Monday June 15th. World Cup Day 4 gave us four matches and every single one had a story worth telling — Germany demolished Curaçao seven-one in what was their biggest World Cup win in over a decade, the Netherlands and Japan served up a thriller that ended two-two in Dallas, Amad Diallo broke Ivory Coast hearts with a last-gasp winner against Ecuador, and Sweden absolutely hammered Tunisia five-one.
